THE BARISTA DAYS..
Humble Beginnings
In 2015, between taking the leap into switching career paths and just starting architecture school, our co-founder mama found herself waking up at 4am to work the opening shift at Philz Coffee (if you're unfamiliar, it's a pour over only native SF coffee chain that serves up in house roasts). As crazy as it sounds, sheĀ had a disposition forĀ getting up that early to sling coffees to the half asleep, half awake, early bird SoMa San Franciscans. Looking forward to seeing the regulars with their quirky orders and unbelievable life stories (or the rare gem that just wants it black), working the bar running on pure caffeine fumes and laughs with your fellow baristas, and the wildly diverse community that a coffee shop, or better yet,Ā just coffee, forms. These just brush the surface of the long list of reasons why LilianĀ knew she would someday get involvedĀ in the coffee industry. She was hooked (we dare say addicted to coffee) and spent the next few years researching, learning, jotting down notes and ideas from her travels for what would become Altitude.Ā As a designer, Lilian is a certified LEED Green Associate. She has always been passionate about sustainable design, but she believes sustainability principles can be applied to the way we live and conduct business as well. This comes full circle in Lilian and Jeff's affinity for the outdoors and camper's code: "Leave No Trace". You pack in and pack out. You leave your basecamp better than you found it.Ā All of these guiding principles together have laid the foundation for what's to come.
